Going bespoke with artist and illustrator Sarah Dowling

floral and watercolour stationery set by Sarah Dowling

We asked artist and illustrator Sarah Dowling (www.sarahdowling.co.uk) for her top tips on creating truly personal wedding invitations. This is what she told us:

Going bespoke with your wedding stationery is a great way to personalise your wedding and share your story as a couple. When loved ones receive your invite in the post, it's really important that is reflects you as a couple, as well as the tone you want to set for the day. This is the first impression your guests will get of your plans after all. From bespoke maps, to venue sketches, favourite florals and even pet portraits, I’ve featured all sorts of meaningful details in my watercolour wedding stationery to add that personal touch.

When I'm working with couples I always encourage them to think about what's meaningful to them, what they're looking forward to the most, and how they can use stationery to enhance those moments and add a little fun. If you're big foodies and you’ve spent ages designing your wedding breakfast, why not add some illustrated menus to the table to get everyone’s taste buds tingling? Table plans can also be a great place to add your twist, I’ve designed ones featuring, favourite authors, footballers, flowers, wines, holidays and even cakes. Or perhaps you want your stationery to simply reflect the beautiful setting or season by using imagery inspired by the location. Bespoke stationery gives you the chance to add all those little details and help bring your own unique story to life.
