Visitors are invited to brush off those cobwebs and get outside for a winter walk with a view at the National Trust’s Newark Park, Gloucestershire.

With over 700 acres, the estate is a great place to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy a walk. Walking boots and a sense of adventure are all that’s needed to follow the waymarked walking trails around the estate.

The walks in the estate at Newark Park provides an outdoor activity with a chance to see the beauty of winter in the Ozleworth valley. Paths have recently been improved to allow easier access out into the wider estate. For those who would like, there are trampers available to hire for a morning or afternoon to explore the estate walks (booking information on website).

“You get a splash of winter colour with the berries and the crispy leaves on the ground, “ says Michelle Oliver, Area Ranger, “There is also a better chance to see some of winter visitors through the tree branches such as redwings and fieldfares”.

With the tea pavilion open, it makes a great walker’s day out with a winter hike. Climb back up the hill to grab a hot drink whilst looking out across the valley in winter sunshine. Visitors can also explore the garden, discovering the winter blooms and wildlife. Birdsong can be heard through the estate and garden with the birds popping through the branches above the walks.

“I love seeing Newark Park covered in a frost over the winter months”, says Libby Woolfrey, Senior Visitor Experience Officer, “To be able to stretch my legs to the viewpoint looking back at the house hearing the wildlife around makes my day.”

Weekend visitors from 29 November to 14 December, will find the house decorated for Christmas. Inside, there will be a roaring fire with several decorated Christmas trees dotted through the house along with swags and floral arrangements. In the Drawing Room, visitors will find  Father Christmas meeting children, hearing their Christmas wishes and handing out presents (booking essential for Father Christmas).

Newark Park is open to visitors weekends in November and up until the 14 December, 10am-4pm. If you are looking for a twixmas walk, the garden and estate are open 26 December – 4 January and then weekends in January.  Normal admission applies.
